A good point, one I often forget. I can be too fixated on the reality of physical matter to remember that worlds can also exist in the mind.

What do you think about this alternate theory: minecraft worlds as kinds of problems to be solved? Similar to a complicated math problem or a jigsaw or crossword puzzle?

I'm not sure. It's important to remember that they don't just exist in the mind though- not any more than the 'world' suggested by Pre-Raphaelite paintings or the Lord of the Rings exists in the mind. Even Minecraft worlds are physical insofar as they are mediated to us by physical things, computers, etc.

I like the idea of the world as a riddle or a parable, but maybe not a puzzle; one tries to 'get out' of a puzzle, or to solve, and thus do away with, a problem.
